At the Central Florida Female Sexual Dysfunction Clinic, we provide a multidisciplinary approach to the diagnosis and treatment of female sexual dysfunction. The science in this area of medicine is developing rapidly and our staff stays current with the latest exciting developments. Our staff includes a board certified gynecologist with special expertise in treatment for sexual dysfunction. We also have a board certified internist to treat medical issues such as hypertension and diabetes that influence women's sexual response. Importantly, we have a skilled sex therapist who offers counseling to our patients, since all sexual problems are not medical in origin. Sexual dysfunction is reported to be a problem for 43% of women. These issues generally fall into four different categories:
Evaluation at the clinic is extensive. A patient's initial office visit begins with a detailed sexual and medical history, followed by a complete physical exam. After the results of these examinations are reviewed, a laboratory panel is obtained to further determine the underlying causes of the patient's complaints. Doctors evaluate the results of exams and laboratory tests and will discuss a personalized treatment plan with the patient. The treatment may include prescriptions for new medication and/or alteration to current medication or dosage. Treatment often includes recommendations for devices to enhance sexual response and arousal. Sessions with our sex therapist may also be part of the treatment plan.
